The Parkside Evangeline Residence
Tel: 212-677-6200

May I take the Prerequisite Courses after I apply to a Program?
Yes, but acceptance to the Program will be conditional based in part upon successful completion of the Prerequisite Courses before the Program begins.

Do you offer Prerequisite Courses outside of NYC?
If you are unable to travel to NYC to take the Prerequisite Courses, we will connect you with a CMA in your area. If no course is available, you have the option of working privately with that CMA to fulfill the prerequisites. If no CMA lives in your area, you may complete the Prerequisite Courses as private or semi-private Tutorials in the week prior to your Certification Program. Please contact us to discuss these options.

Is it possible to apply to a Certification Program after the application deadline?
Yes. If you have missed the specified application deadline for a Certification
Program, you may still apply. Please contact LIMS® to ask about available space in the program of your choice.

What Do You Look For In A Certification Student?
We are interested in mature, active, self-aware learners. Writing, speaking and moving skills will be evaluated. Professional dance or movement training is not required, but a variety of movement experiences is valuable. It is also important that you be able to work in a group and self-motivate to complete independent work.

How much does a Certification Program cost?
Tuition for the Certification Program in Laban Movement Studies is $12,200. Additional fees will apply. Tuition for the Bartenieff Instructor Certification Program- Level I: Primary Connections is $2800.00.

Do you offer Scholarships, Financial Aid, or Work-study?
LIMS® does not offer scholarships at this time. However, any student enrolling in the Yearlong Certification Program may apply for a Work-study position at the time of their initial application. A Work-study position is awarded based on an applicant’s financial need, time availability, and skills. Please see the Certification Program application for details or contact us at LIMS®.

Is it possible to receive college credit upon graduating from a LIMS® Certification Program?
LIMS® is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD), designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a national accrediting body. According to NASD's formula for credit equivalency, the Certification Program is tantamount to 36 semester hours. Our graduates have been granted credit towards the MA, MFA and PhD in fields including Dance, Dance Education and Inter-Disciplinary Studies. Our graduates have received credit at schools including SUNY College at Brockport, California State University at Long Beach, Goucher College, Hampshire College, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Connecticut College, University of California Santa Cruz, Wesleyan University, New York University, Empire State College-SUNY and Antioch College.

What is the Payment Policy for a Certification Program?

When a student is accepted to any Program they are issued a payment contract containing a schedule of fees. Additionally, at the time of acceptance, a non-refundable enrollment deposit is due. The remaining tuition is then divided into two to four payments (depending on the program). Every student however, has the option to pay in smaller, more frequent installments. If this payment plan is selected, a one-time contract revision fee is charged, with no interest. Students who wish to pay using a credit card should be aware that service charges for both domestic and international transactions are levied by the service provider.

Does LIMS® Offer a Student Visa for International Students?
Yes, the Laban/Bartenieff Institute is authorized to admit international students
to the Yearlong Certification Program under the F-1 student visa category. Once you have been accepted into the program, the necessary forms will be sent to
you. Since the holder of an F-1 student visa is not permitted to work in the
United States, you will have to fill out a from that shows that you have
enough money to cover the cost of tuition and living expenses for the duration of your studies. You must also have a valid passport for entry into the United States.

How Do I Send Money to LIMS® from Outside the U.S.?
There are several ways that international students may send money to LIMS®.
The first is to wire money directly from their bank account to the LIMS® bank account. The second is to send a bank check in U.S. dollars only through the mail. The third option is to pay using a credit card. Please note that in all instances fees are charged by the bank or service provider, which the student will be responsible for. Please contact LIMS® for details on these charges. Pending prior approval, students may also pay in person in cash or Traveler’s Check upon their arrival in NYC.

Cancellation Policy
Once registered, if you are unable to attend, please let us know immediately.
A full refund minus a processing fee may be available only when you notify LIMS®
of your cancellation prior to the Program. LIMS® reserves the right to cancel a Program due to insufficient enrollment and to change instructors without notice.

How should I dress for a class?
Please dress comfortably bringing a few layers of clothing for warmth, as studios can be cold due to air conditioning or cold weather. A folded blanket, a cushion, foam yoga block or folded yoga mat for sitting on is recommended. Many students wear soft knee pads to protect those bony landmarks.

Will I need to move to learn the material?
The material taught at LIMS® is learned experientially. L
IMS® has been receiving students from diverse backgrounds including dance, anthropology, Dance Movement Therapy, yoga, animation and other fields for 30 years. The movement sequences taught in class are adaptable to all levels of experience and all types of movers. As you integrate the material you will notice yourself moving more articulately and efficiently. Many times you will be creating your own movement sequences, individually and in groups and experiencing the creative process as well.

How old are the students?
Currently our students range in age from their early 20s into their 50s. We have been fortunate in the past to have welcomed students in their 70s. We believe that multi-generational groups are stimulating and enriching for everyone, and we encourage mature students of all ages to apply.
