Module I: Immersion
In Module I, you will become acquainted with the fundamental categories of the Laban system, explore your movement possibilities according to your own body uniqueness and begin perceiving the power of LMA as applied to your field of interest. Classes include theory and movement experientials and are accessible to students from all disciplines. This exciting and rigorous course serves as the first of four Modules within the LIMS® Certification Program in Laban Movement Studies, which awards the Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) title. Alternatively, Module I may be taken independently as a short-course.
Format: full day sessions, intensive
Dates: June 8 -25, 2009
Time: M-F 9am-6pm, Saturdays 10am-2pm
Pre-requisites: Intro to LMA, Intro to BF, Intro to A & K, written application and interview
Application Fee: $225
Tuition*: $3000
Module II: Concentration
In Module II students will be immersed in Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) Theory, Bartenieff Fundamentals (BF), Movement Observation and Seminar in LMA history and application. This course consists of students who have successfully completed Module I of the Modular Certification program. Students will subsequently need to complete Module III and IV and a Final Certification Project before receiving the title Certified Movement Analyst (CMA).
Format: full day sessions, intensive
Dates: January 3 - 21, 2009
No classes on January 11, 18 and 19
Time: M-F 9am-6pm, Saturdays Jan 3 and 10, 10am-2pm
Pre-requisites: successful completion of Module I
Tuition: $3000
Module III: Depth
Module III will continue the exploration of Space Harmony using the theories and principles at play in Transverse movement within the Icosahedron. Laban's A and B Scales will be studied in depth with focus on Phrasing and Shape Flow Support during Transverse movement.
Students will gain greater understanding of their own personal movement choices and further develop their skills in observing the functional and expressive movement of others. Students will crystallize their understanding and integration of the over-arching LMA themes and the principles of Bartenieff Fundamentals. Students will gain greater facility with the verbal and Motif vocabularies used in Laban Movement Analysis in preparation for their Final Project proposals.
Format: full day sessions, intensive
Date: June 8 – 25, 2009
Time: M-F 9am-6pm, Saturdays 10am-2pm
Pre-requisites: successful completion of Module II
Tuition: $3000
Module IV: Review and Project
This Module consists of students currently enrolled in the 2008-2010 Modular Certification program. Additionally, LIMS® is pleased to introduce a new way to resume LMA/BF studies and fulfill your CMA followed by completion of a Certification Project. Former students who began but did not complete their Final Certification Project, those persons having 20 or more years of documented teaching experience with the LMA/BF material but have not been enrolled in a LIMS® Certification Program, or have a minimum 400 documented hours of LMA/BF training with a CMA outside of a Certification Program may apply to Module IV.

Laban/Bartenieff and Somatic Studies Canada™

Module One: Bartenieff Fundamentals Practice;
Perceiving and Observing in Body/Effort/Shape/Space (BESS)
December 5-19, 2008 Vancouver
For application information please visit www.labancan.org
Module One focuses on Bartenieff Fundamentals (BF) Practice, through hands-on work and movement repatterning, and somatic movement exploration. It begins with deepening perceptual training in LMA/BF, utilizing the framework of BESS in Theory and in Application. Module One includes discerning individual perceptual biases, and strengthening access to less developed senses and areas of movement awareness. Bartenieff Fundamentals practice expands and builds understanding and personal movement development through in-depth work in the principles and practice of BF, and developmental work in Body-Mind Centering®, including hands-on training. The goal of BF is to facilitate ease and efficiency, and enhanced neuro-muscular patterning in any functional or expressive movement activity. This practice includes building awareness and articulation within the LMA category of ‘Body’, through experience with dynamic connectivity, movement initiation, sequencing, body organization, breathing and breath support, body architecture, grounding, and whole body integration. These principles can be applied to somatic practices, dance technique, dance and theatre performance, martial arts, Yoga, NIA, Pilates, and any body/mind practice; as well as for profound enhancement of personal embodiment.

Module IV: Choreutic Space and the Integration of Shape
This module requires successful completion of Module Three, and includes in-depth study and practice in Laban's sophisticated and illuminating theories of 'Space Harmony'; while enhancing intentional use of space, supported through the integration of changing qualities and modes of Shape. Laban's theories of Space as expressed in human movement patterns, draw on inner and outer unfolding spatial form and structure, repeating and balancing patterns of movement reflected in nature--specifically in the design of Plato's five solid polyhedra. Exploration and practice in this module develops the awareness and greater capacity for moving in space with intentionality, fullness, and greater adaptability. It also prepares the student for integrating elements of BESS into a final Certification Project. There is a ten-day break between Modules V and VI, to allow those proceeding to Module Six to finalize work on the Final Application Project.
